Artificial Intelligence and Data Day at Eurotunnel

On December 2, Eurotunnel organised the Artificial Intelligence and Data Day, an immersive event aimed at raising awareness among employees and sharing innovative projects that contribute to enhancing the performance and reliability of the Channel Tunnel’s equipment and infrastructure.

35 employees, leaders of ongoing projects, presented the most cutting-edge projects to participants from across all departments.

A rich and immersive programme

Participants discovered concrete use cases of AI applied to Eurotunnel’s operations. These included predictive maintenance to anticipate failures and optimise equipment availability, process optimisation to improve productivity and quality, enhanced safety and reliability through intelligent monitoring systems and data automation, classification for the implementation of customised alert systems.

On the agenda:

  • A forum presenting AI projects deployed in different business lines and activities
  • Field visits to observe AI in action, particularly on flagship projects such as:
    • CamCat, a truck equipped with cameras on board a LeShuttle Freight shuttle travelling at 120 km/h in the Tunnel, which captures images of the catenary analysed by AI and then generates alerts to anticipate field interventions.
    • PRISM (Prediction of Reprofiling by Systematic Inspection and Measurement), a tool that continuously analyses the wheel profiles of shuttles using a non-contact laser system, enabling accurate measurements at 90 km/h every 117 km.
  • Practical workshops to experiment with AI tools and understand their potential: AI to help me in my daily life, My AI agent and me.

A strategic lever for acculturation and innovation

This day created a space for exchanges between experts and employees to promote acculturation to AI and encourage the emergence of new ideas.

This initiative illustrates the Group’s ambition to constantly innovate to enhance the performance, safety and reliability of our equipment and infrastructure for the benefit of our customers.
